Start the Panchabhoota temple tour with Kalahastishwarar temple which is considered a self-manifested lingam. The flickering flame in the inner sanctum all year round is a miraculous indicator of the presence of Vayu (Air).

  • Our representative will meet you at Chennai airport from where we begin our tour to the famous Panchabhoota temples.
  • Start with Kalahasti temple near Tirupati, where Lord Siva is worshiped in the form of air.
  • The temple is also regarded as Rahu-Ketu kshetra and Dakshina Kasi.
  • This ancient site traces its history to the 5th century. The unique shape of the lingam has an interesting legend behind it.
  • Consider performing Rahu-Ketu Pooja which is considered as the most important offering here.
  • Optionally, you may also visit Tirupati Balaji temple, if you wish to.

Today, Head to Kanchipuram. We walk into one of the most important spiritual centres of Hinduism. Kanchipuram was ancient capital of the Pallavas (7th century), Cholas and the Vijaynagara Empire.

  • Visit the Kailasanathar Temple: The oldest temple in Kanchi (Optional).
  • It reflects the freshness and simplicity of the early Dravidian style of temple architecture of the 8th century.
  • Explore this sandstone compound and admire the fascinating carvings, including half-animal deities that were popular during that period.
  • Explore the Ekambareswarar Temple, the largest temple in Kanchi associated with the element of earth.
  • This Temple features a 59 meter high gopuram (gateway tower), a hallway with a thousand pillars and a 3,500 year old mango tree whose branches are said to yield four different types of mangoes.

Set off on a journey to the spiritual hub of Tiruvannamalai at the base of the majestic mountain. Lord Siva is said to have manifested in the form of Agni or fire ins Arunachaleswar temple, here in Tiruvannamalai.

  • On reaching Tiruvannamalai, check in to your hotel and relax for an hour.
  • Explore the Arunachaleswar Temple: One of the largest temple complexes in India.
  • This 10-hectare temple has its oldest parts tracing back to the 9th century.
  • Also see a thousand-pillared hall and get blessed by the temple elephant.
  • The biggest attraction is the East gopuram (gateway tower) which is 271ft tall making it second tallest in the country.
  • Spend the evening at Ramana Ashram, the ashram of the most revered of Indian Saints.
  • This tranquil ashram draws devotees of Sri Ramana Maharshi, one of the first Hindu gurus to gain an international following during the 1930s.
  • Visit the old and new halls and the Samadhi where the guru’s body is enshrined. If interested join a mediation/ satsung.

Today morning after a lovely breakfast at your hotel and by 9 am we begin our journey covering Trichy temples. Trichy is famous for Jambukeshwara temple that celebrates Lord Shiva's water effect

 

  • On arrival at Trichy , visit Thiruvanaikaval Jambukeshwara Temple for the darshan of Appu linga, the water effect.
  • The sanctum of Jambukeshwara has a natural underground water stream which inspite of pumping water out, is always filled with water.
  • The small entrances and unique rituals in this temple have a link with its legend.
  • Then head to Srirangam to visit Sri Ranganathaswamy temple (Optional).
  • With an area of 160 acres, this reclining Vishnu shrine has 21 towers and fifty shrines.
  • This temple also features a hall of thousand pillars with sculpture of riders on horses
  • Among other attractions is the art museum near the 5th gateway which has a worthwhile collection of ivory figurines.
  • Visit the Rockfort Temple: Cave temples perched on a 83 m high rock ( Optional).
  • There are close to 600 steps to climb to reach the top.
  • There are multiple shrines and caves along the way. The top will give you a beautiful aerial view of Trichy.
